Tinexyl® PRO, marketed by NovaBiotics Consumer Health Ltd and developed by the biotechnology company NovaBiotics, is a first-of-its-kind conditioning product for toenails, currently available through UK podiatrists and foot health practitioners. Its unique, proprietary water-based formulation contains conditioning and hydrating components including TXYL® polymers that correct toenail discolouration, brittleness, thickening and poor texture, improving nail plate structure and barrier function.
Gaynor Wooldridge, consultant podiatrist and Executive Chair of the Institute of Podiatry conducted an independent, single-arm study, with the primary objective being to determine if Tinexyl® PRO improved nail plate damage as a result of fungal nail infection (onychomycosis).
Results and responses to Tinexyl® PRO were overwhelmingly positive. All criteria indicated significant improvement in the cosmetic appearance of toenails across the entire intention to treat (ITT) group of 33 subjects. A decrease in toenailbrittleness, thickening and discomfort was reported in 75% of subjects at 18-24 weeks of once-daily (overnight) product use. The majority of subjects also reported improved hydration. 100% of study subjects reported the product was easy to use. 22 patients from the ITT group completed study questionnaires.
The case study report from this trial states, “The results suggest that this topical product effectively rehydrates andimproves the condition of nails affected by various pathologies” and that “Tinexyl® PRO is an effective and safe alternative in the topical treatment of nail pathologies, improving both clinical and cosmetic outcomes”. Also, that “Based on the findings, this product may be the substance of choice for topical nail treatment in the future”.
The data have been published in the in the Institute of Podiatry’s ‘Podiatry Review’ April 2025 edition. The Institute of Podiatrists’ Medicines and Procedures Panel have previously endorsed Tinexyl® PRO.
